భావం · Meaning
ఓ సుమతీ! ఇంటి పక్కన శత్రువు ఉన్నా, లెక్కలు బాగా తెలిసిన వ్రాతగాడే ప్రభువు అయినా, గ్రామ పెద్ద (కాపు) చాడీలు చెప్పేవాడైనా, ఆ ఊరి కరణానికి (గ్రామ లేఖరికి) బ్రతుకు దుర్భరమవుతుంది. ఈ పరిస్థితులలో కరణం తన వృత్తిని సాఫీగా నిర్వహించలేడు.

O wise one! If an enemy lives next door, if the ruler himself is a scribe (or expert in accounts), or if the village headman is prone to slander, the life of a village accountant (Karanam) becomes impossible. Under these conditions, the accountant cannot survive or prosper in his role.
