తాము బ్రహ్మజ్ఞానులమని కొందరు అహంకారంతో విర్రవీగుతుంటారు. కానీ వారికి నిజమైన బ్రహ్మ స్వరూపం తెలియదు. బ్రహ్మము తెలుపా, నలుపా, ఎరుపా అని అడిగితే వారు సమాధానం చెప్పలేరు, ఎందుకంటే పరబ్రహ్మము రంగులకు, గుణాలకు (సత్వ, రజ, తమో గుణాలకు) అతీతమైనది. ఆ విషయం తెలియక కేవలం మాటలతో గొప్పలు చెప్పుకోవడం వ్యర్థమని వేమన భావం.

Many people arrogantly boast that they are 'knowers of Brahman' (Enlightened ones), but they cannot describe the true nature of the Divine. Vemana challenges them to say if the Divine is white, black, or red—colors symbolizing the three Gunas (qualities) of nature. Since the Ultimate Truth is formless and beyond attributes, those who merely boast do not truly know it; true realization is beyond simple description.
