మాదిగది వసిష్ఠుమగువ చేడె
మాదిగ గుణమున్న మఱి ద్విజుఁడగునయా
విశ్వదాభిరామ వినర వేమ!

భావం · Meaning
మంచి గుణములు ఉన్నవారిని వారి కులమును బట్టి తక్కువగా చూడరాదు. అరుంధతి మాదిగ కులములో జన్మించినను, తన పాతివ్రత్య మహాత్మ్యముచే వసిష్ఠుని భార్యయై పూజింపబడుచున్నది. అదే విధముగా, బ్రాహ్మణుడైనను నీచ గుణములు కలిగియున్నచో అతడు గౌరవనీయుడు కాజాలడు. కులము కన్నా గుణమే ప్రధానమని భావము.
In English
One should not disparage someone based on their caste if they possess noble virtues. Vemana cites the example of Arundhati, who, despite being born in a Madiga (low caste) community, became the revered wife of Sage Vasishta due to her virtue. Conversely, even a Brahmin is not truly noble if he possesses lowly qualities. Thus, character determines one's worth, not birth.
