Meaning
In English
Just as fire is latent in a tree and the tree grows only to eventually be consumed by that very fire, human beings harbor internal enemies like anger and desire. These passions grow along with the person and eventually consume the ignorant man (non-yogi) from within. Few realize that they are nurturing the very forces that will destroy them.
Modern relevance
This verse is highly relevant to modern self-destructive behaviors. We often nurture habits, stress, or negative emotions (like greed or anger) that grow alongside our success but ultimately destroy our peace and health. It serves as a warning to identify and control these internal 'fires' before they consume our lives.
