Meaning
In English
The mind is like an illusory beast that constantly wanders towards worldly distractions. One should not let this precious faculty wander outwards but instead restrain it. By using one's own will and intellect to conquer the mind's erratic nature, one attains liberation right here in this world.
Modern relevance
In the modern world, our minds are constantly bombarded by distractions from social media, consumerism, and external pressures, acting like the 'illusory beast' Vemana describes. This verse emphasizes the importance of mindfulness and self-control. True peace and freedom (Mukti) come not from chasing external desires, but from mastering one's own thoughts and inner state.
