Meaning
In English
Even if a man is blessed with a wife as beautiful as the celestial Rambha and as virtuous as can be, if he is addicted to adultery, he will not abandon his immoral ways. This behavior is comparable to a dog accustomed to eating filth; no matter what else is available, it cannot be weaned off its vile habit.
Modern relevance
This verse serves as a stark reminder that external perfection in one's life (like a perfect partner or good circumstances) cannot cure internal character flaws or addictions. It warns that deep-seated negative habits are incredibly difficult to break and that a person's inherent nature often overrides their fortunate reality, much like an instinct that defies logic.
