Meaning
In English
There is no sorrow greater than excessive desire. Without a steady vision and a controlled mind, one cannot attain happiness or liberation. True peace comes only when one conquers greed and focuses the mind.
Modern relevance
In the modern world driven by consumerism and constant distraction, this verse serves as a powerful reminder that chasing endless desires leads to stress (duhkha) rather than satisfaction. It suggests that mental health and true contentment come from mindfulness and focus, rather than external accumulation. By controlling our wandering minds and limiting our greed, we can find stability and peace amidst chaos.
