సోమయాజి యజ్ఞాలు చేసి స్వర్గసుఖాలను ఆశించాడు. కానీ రంభ వచ్చి అతడిని లొంగదీసుకోగానే, యజ్ఞం పూర్తికాకుండానే ఆ స్వర్గసుఖం (రంభ) అతనికి దక్కింది. మనిషి బాహ్యమైన ఆచారాలతో గొప్పలు పోయినా, అంతర్గత బలహీనతల వల్ల పతనమైతే, ఆ ఆచారాల వల్ల వచ్చే నిజమైన ఆధ్యాత్మిక ఫలితం దక్కదు, కేవలం ప్రాపంచిక సుఖమే మిగులుతుంది అని వేమన వ్యంగ్యంగా చెబుతున్నాడు.

The Somayaji performed rituals hoping for heavenly rewards, but when the nymph Rambha seduced him, he obtained that 'heavenly pleasure' directly by his own hand, losing his spiritual merit. Vemana satirically points out that outward rituals are futile if one cannot conquer inner desires; the Somayaji got the 'fruit' (Rambha) but lost the true purpose of his penance.
