పుణ్యములును పాపపూర్వకములె
కొఱతవేయ దొంగ కోరినచందమా

భావం · Meaning
ప్రపంచంలో సుఖాలన్నీ నిశితంగా పరిశీలిస్తే దుఃఖభరితాలే. అలాగే పుణ్యకార్యాలు కూడా తరచుగా పాపపు పనుల ద్వారా వచ్చిన ధనంతోనో, అహంకారంతోనో చేస్తారు కాబట్టి అవి కూడా పాపంతో కూడినవే. వీటిని కోరుకోవడం అంటే దొంగ తనను తాను కొరత (శూలం) వేయించుకోవాలని కోరుకున్నంత అవివేకమని వేమన భావం.

Vemana asserts that when examined closely, all worldly pleasures are essentially sorrows, and even meritorious deeds are often tainted by the sins committed to achieve them. Therefore, craving these worldly rewards is as self-destructive and foolish as a thief desiring to be impaled on a stake.
