దానము చేసే గుణమున్న వాని దగ్గర పిసినారి చేరితే, వాడు ఆ దాతను దానధర్మాలు చేయనివ్వకుండా అడ్డుపడతాడు. ఇది ఎలాగంటే, కోరికలు తీర్చే కల్పవృక్షం క్రింద ముళ్ళపొద ఉంటే, ఆ ముళ్ళ భయంతో ఎవరూ ఆ చెట్టు దగ్గరకు వెళ్ళలేరు. అలాగే లోభి సాంగత్యం వల్ల దాత కూడా పరులకు సహాయం చేయలేకపోతాడు.

If a miser accompanies a generous person, he will obstruct any acts of charity, even if it pains him to do so. This situation is comparable to a thorny bush growing under a wish-fulfilling tree (Kalpavriksha); the thorns prevent seekers from approaching the tree to get their desires fulfilled, rendering the tree's generosity inaccessible.
