Meaning
In English
People tend to remember God only when they face difficulties, but completely ignore Him when they are happy and comfortable. Such opportunistic prayer is merely useless strain because it lacks genuine devotion and will not yield God's grace. True faith requires remembering the Divine in both good times and bad.
Modern relevance
This verse is a timeless critique of 'fair-weather faith.' In modern life, many people turn to spirituality or prayer only during crises like exams, financial losses, or health scares, treating God like an emergency service. Vemana reminds us that authentic spiritual practice involves gratitude and mindfulness even when life is going well, not just when we need something.
