Meaning
In English
A true yogi is one who meditates on God, analyzes his physical existence into its constituent parts (seven elements/dhatus), and surrenders his entire being to the Divine. Having thus offered himself, he remains steadfast in his daily duties, performing them as an offering without attachment.
Modern relevance
This verse teaches the importance of total surrender and self-analysis in spiritual life. Instead of mechanically performing rituals, one should understand the temporary nature of the body and dedicate all actions to a higher power. It suggests that true duty (karma yoga) is performed with a mindset of complete detachment and dedication.
