Meaning
In English
Torturing one's body with severe austerities while claiming to be a yogi does not cleanse the mind of its impurities. Just as beating the surface of an anthill does not kill the snake hiding deep inside, mere physical penance without internal purification is futile.
Modern relevance
In today's world, this verse reminds us that external makeovers, performative wellness routines, or public displays of virtue are meaningless if we do not address our internal character. True well-being and integrity come from cleansing our thoughts and intentions, not just refining our physical appearance or social image.
