బండగోవు కాసపడినఁ గలదె
కొండఁ బసిఁడి కొండ గోరిన చందమౌ

రాతి ఆవును కోసి చూసినా అందులో పక్షులకు ఆహారంగా వేయడానికి చిన్న మాంసపు ముక్క కూడా దొరకదు. అటువంటి రాతి ఆవు నుండి పాలు ఆశించడం, సాధారణ కొండను చూసి అది బంగారు కొండ కావాలని కోరుకోవడం ఎంత అవివేకమో, లోభి నుండి దానగుణం ఆశించడం కూడా అంతే వ్యర్థం.

Just as cutting a stone cow yields no flesh even for a bird, and expecting milk from it is futile, so is expecting generosity from a miser. Hoping for such impossible things is like wishing for an ordinary hill to become the Golden Mountain (Meru).
