బంగారు కొండయైన మేరు పర్వతం మీద నివసించే దేవేంద్రునికి కూడా ఆశ చావలేదు. అందుకే అతడు కర్ణుని వద్దకు వెళ్లి అతని సహజ కవచకుండలాలను దానంగా అడిగాడు. ఎంత సంపద ఉన్నా దురాశ మానవుని (లేదా దేవతలను కూడా) వదలదు అని భావం.

Even though Indra resides on Mount Meru, the mountain of gold, his greed did not vanish. This is evident from how he went to Karna and begged for his golden earrings. The verse illustrates that possessing immense wealth does not necessarily cure one of desire or greed.
