ధనమదంతో కళ్ళు మూసుకుపోయిన సంపన్నుడు, ఎదుటివారిని చూసి కూడా చూడనట్లు, వారి మాటలు విని కూడా విననట్లు ప్రవర్తిస్తాడు. నోరు విప్పి మాట్లాడడు. ఈ ప్రవర్తన సన్నిపాత రోగం (delirium) వచ్చిన రోగి ప్రవర్తన వలె ఉంటుంది. సంపద కలిగించే అహంకారం మనిషిని స్పృహ లేనివానిగా మారుస్తుందని భావం.

A wealthy person, blinded by pride, behaves like a patient suffering from delirium (sannipata). Though he has eyes, he ignores others; though he hears, he does not listen; and he refuses to speak. The verse illustrates how the intoxication of wealth renders a person insensible to the humanity around them, much like a comatose state.
