కలియుగంలో మానవులు ముక్తిని పొందే మార్గం తెలియక, తమ శరీరాలను కష్టపెట్టుకుంటూ కఠినమైన తపస్సులు చేస్తున్నారు. కానీ, కేవలం శారీరక కష్టంతో కూడిన తపస్సు వల్ల ప్రయోజనం లేదు; పరమాత్మ తత్వాన్ని (జ్ఞానాన్ని) తెలుసుకోలేకపోతే ఆ తపస్సు వృధా అని వేమన భావం.
