కల్లు ముంతకు పైన విభూతిని ఎంత దట్టముగా పూసినను, దాని లోపల ఉన్న కల్లు వాసన పోదు. అలాగే, మనసులో అజ్ఞానము, మలినము ఉన్నవాడు మెడలో జంధ్యము వేసుకున్నంత మాత్రాన బ్రాహ్మణుడు (జ్ఞాని) కాలేడు. బాహ్య వేషధారణ కన్నా అంతఃశుద్ధి ముఖ్యమని భావము.

Just as coating a toddy pot with sacred ash does not remove the foul smell of the liquor inside, wearing a sacred thread (Yajnopavitam) does not make a person a true Brahmin or noble soul. External symbols of sanctity are meaningless without inner purity and character.
