Meaning

In English

The verse elucidates a profound philosophical truth: bondage is not external but is created by one's own 'Sankalpa' (volition, desires, or mental constructs). Conversely, the ultimate Reality or Liberation (Tatva) is simply the cessation of this mental activity. A truly pure soul is one who understands this distinction between the self-imposed bondage of thought and the freedom found in its silence.

Modern relevance

In the modern world, this verse is highly relevant to mental health and stress management. It suggests that our stress, anxiety, and suffering are often self-inflicted through our own expectations, overthinking, and desires (Sankalpa). True peace and clarity come not from acquiring more, but from 'decluttering' the mind and letting go of these mental attachments.
