Meaning
In English
Man eats to his fill and displays immense pride, metaphorically raising a hundred hoods. He spends his life eating repeatedly and burning it up in digestion, but when the final journey to the burial ground arrives, the body he nurtured becomes nothing but useless matter. Ultimately, everyone must cross over to the shore of death, leaving all physical sustenance behind.
Modern relevance
This verse highlights the futility of obsession with physical sustenance and ego. In the modern world, where people consume excessively and take pride in material accumulation and physical appearance, Vemana reminds us that the body is transient. All the energy spent on feeding and pampering the self ultimately amounts to nothing when death arrives, urging a focus on spiritual rather than merely physical survival.
