Meaning
In English
The mind acts as the root for the tree of worldly illusion (Maya). Only when this root is destroyed or conquered does the tree of existence fall, causing its vast branches of desires to wither away naturally. Thus, mastering the mind is the key to eliminating worldly attachments and desires.
Modern relevance
In today's consumer-driven world, we often try to solve problems by addressing external symptoms (branches) rather than the root cause. This verse reminds us that stress, anxiety, and endless wanting stem from our own mindset. By cultivating mindfulness and controlling our internal reactions, we can naturally reduce the chaos and pressure of modern life without needing to forcefully suppress every individual desire.
