పుట్టుకతో గాని, చావులో గాని మనిషికి జంధ్యము (కుల చిహ్నం) ఉండదు. మనకు జన్మనిచ్చే తల్లికి కూడా జంధ్యము ఉండదు కాబట్టి, శాస్త్రాల ప్రకారం ఆమె శూద్రురాలి కిందే లెక్క. అలాంటప్పుడు, శూద్రురాలైన తల్లికి పుట్టిన వాడు బ్రాహ్మణుడు లేదా గొప్పవాడు ఎలా అవుతాడు? కులం పుట్టుకతో రాదని, గుణంతో వస్తుందని వేమన భావం.

Vemana challenges the basis of caste superiority by noting that no one is born or dies with a sacred thread. If the source (mother) is a Shudra, the poet questions how the son can claim to be a pure Brahmin by birth, implying that caste is a social construct rather than a biological reality.
