Meaning
In English
Birth and death are merely transient states, akin to dreaming and deep sleep. The world itself is an illusion, existing only like a mirage in the sunlight. Yet, it is the peculiar nature of man to remain attached to this temporary world, mistaking it for reality.
Modern relevance
In today's fast-paced world, people often become overwhelmed by the highs and lows of life, treating every success and failure as permanent. This verse reminds us that life's events are fleeting, like dreams, and that excessive attachment to material things (the 'mirage') leads to unnecessary suffering. Adopting a perspective of detachment can bring mental peace and resilience.
