తాతను, తండ్రిని, తనను కన్నది తల్లులే. శాస్త్రాల ప్రకారం స్త్రీలకు ఉపనయనం లేదు కాబట్టి వారిని శూద్రులతో సమానంగా చూస్తారు (లేదా జన్మతః అందరూ శూద్రులే). అలాంటప్పుడు, శూద్రురాలైన తల్లి కడుపున పుట్టిన కొడుకు తాను మాత్రం గొప్ప బ్రాహ్మణుడనని ఎలా చెప్పుకోగలడు? కులమనేది పుట్టుకతో రాదని, గుణంతో వస్తుందని వేమన భావం.
