Meaning

In English

If one remains silent when scolded or beaten, does not retaliate despite seeing the aggression, and stays unagitated by realizing that the abuse does not touch one's true self (soul), such a person attains the state of the Divine (Brahman). It emphasizes the power of stoicism and detachment.

Modern relevance

In today's high-stress world, this verse teaches the ultimate form of emotional intelligence and conflict resolution. Instead of reacting impulsively to provocation or insults, maintaining composure and not taking things personally allows one to transcend petty conflicts and maintain inner peace. It suggests that true strength lies in self-control, not in retaliation.
