ప్రపంచంలో ప్రాణం అత్యంత విలువైనది. కానీ మనుషులు ఆ ప్రాణాన్ని పణంగా పెట్టి ధనాన్ని (బంగారాన్ని) సంపాదిస్తారు, అంటే వారికి ప్రాణం కన్నా ధనం తీపి. అంతకంటే విచిత్రమేమిటంటే, ఆ కష్టపడి సంపాదించిన ధనాన్ని కూడా స్త్రీల మాయ మాటలకు లొంగి పోగొట్టుకుంటారు. మనిషి ప్రాణం కంటే ధనాన్ని, ధనం కంటే కామాన్ని ఎక్కువగా ప్రేమిస్తూ పతనమవుతున్నాడని వేమన హెచ్చరిక.

Vemana illustrates the hierarchy of human delusions. While life itself should be the most precious (sweetest) thing, humans often value wealth (gold) more than their own survival. Furthermore, they value the enticing words of women (lust/infatuation) even more than the wealth they risked their lives to acquire. The verse critiques how misplaced priorities—valuing lust over wealth, and wealth over life—lead to ruin.
