Meaning

In English

If one faces trouble, humiliation, or discomfort in their current place of residence, they should immediately move to a place that offers peace and happiness. Just as cranes do not remain in a dried-up pond but fly to where water is available, a wise person should not cling to a place that no longer sustains their well-being.

Modern relevance

This verse teaches the importance of recognizing toxic environments—whether in workplaces, relationships, or living situations—and having the courage to leave them. Instead of enduring suffering or stagnation out of habit or fear, one should proactively seek environments that foster growth, dignity, and mental peace. Adaptation and movement are essential for survival and happiness.
