Meaning

In English

What did Parasurama gain by beheading his mother solely to obey his father's command? He ultimately found himself without a home or refuge, forced to retreat to the Mahendra mountain in isolation. The verse illustrates that blind obedience to authority, when it contradicts fundamental ethics like compassion and non-violence, leads only to suffering and loss of peace.

Modern relevance

In contemporary life, this verse serves as a warning against 'blind obedience' to authority figures—whether parents, bosses, or political leaders—when their demands are unethical or harmful. Just because an order comes from a superior does not absolve one of the consequences of executing a wrong action. True wisdom lies in using one's own conscience to distinguish right from wrong, rather than following orders that lead to personal and social isolation.
