Meaning

In English

It is futile to exhaust oneself by wandering around begging and flattering unworthy people for sustenance. Instead, one who acts as a herdsman to the cattle of his own wandering senses—controlling and guiding them—will achieve true greatness in this world and the hereafter.

Modern relevance

In today's world, this verse warns against the loss of dignity that comes from sycophancy and dependence on others for material success. It suggests that true empowerment and respect come not from pleasing others, but from self-discipline and mastering one's own desires and distractions.
