ప్రళయకాలంలో సాక్షాత్తు శివుని ప్రమథ గణాల చేతిలో ఆనాటి ప్రజలందరూ నశించిపోయారు. ఆ సమయంలో వేదాలు చదివిన పండితులు (ద్విజులు) కూడా దైవ నిర్ణయాన్ని గానీ, దేవుని తత్వాన్ని గానీ తెలుసుకోలేకపోయారు. దైవ మాయను జయించడం లేదా అర్థం చేసుకోవడం ఎంతటి జ్ఞానులకైనా అసాధ్యమని భావం.

During the great cosmic dissolution, the people of that era were decimated by the forces of Shiva (Pramathas).
