Meaning
In English
Just as a heavy crowbar relies on its sheer strength and has no need for the fine sharpness of a blade, a spiteful or obstinate person relies on their force and stubbornness, having no use for gentle, pious conduct (Satvic Dharma). One cannot expect refinement from the crude, nor piety from the malicious; each acts according to their inherent nature.
Modern relevance
This verse teaches us to recognize the true nature of the people we deal with. Just as we use a crowbar for heavy lifting and a knife for cutting, we must understand that aggressive or stubborn people may not appreciate or understand subtle, gentle reasoning. Expecting a coarse person to behave with high refinement is as futile as sharpening a crowbar; we should manage our expectations and deal with people based on their inherent character.
